Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia is the enlargement of breast tissue in males. Hormonal problems, alcohol use, substance abuse, weight gain may cause gynecomastia.

Breast is an organ that consists of fat and mammary glands. Solutions may vary depending on the density of the component that causes enlargement and the size of the breast. Liposuction generally gives the desired outcome but, in some cases, surgical removal might be necessary.

Gynecomastia surgery is a procedure that lasts for 1-1.5 hours under either local anesthesia with intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. The patient can be discharged on the same day or spends one day at the hospital. It is important to use a medical corset for 4 weeks following surgery. Patients can resume daily activities in 2-3 days and start exercising in 4-6 weeks.
