Eyelid Surgery

The first signs of aging are seen around the eyes. Eyebrows drooping because of gravity, loosening of the skin of the eyelids and bags formed by fatty tissue cause a tired look around the eyes. In addition to cosmetic impairment, drooping eyelids may also disturb one’s vision and eyesight.

All these problems can be repaired by eyelid surgery which is also known as blepharoplasty. Depending on what the patient needs, eyelid surgery can be planned for both the upper and lower lids as well as in combination with eyebrow lift. During surgery, excess skin is removed, and the herniated fatty tissue that causes a baggy appearance can be fixed.

Upper eyelid surgery can be completed in 0.5 to 1 hour under local anesthesia or intravenous sedation without any need for general anesthesia. It does not require hospitalization. Any edema or bruising around the eyes may last for 4-7 days. If eyelid surgery is to be performed for both the upper and lower lids, it will be more comfortable to undergo the procedure under general anesthesia though it can also be performed under local anesthesia and sedation. The duration of the surgery is 2-2.5 hours and there may be edema and bruising around the eyes for 4-7 days.
